The highest Alpine Garden in Europe!
Rotenboden station, just above the enchanting Lake Riffelsee, is home to numerous plants and herbs. The Alpine Garden covers more than 5,000 m2 and offers a unique opportunity to explore the flora and fauna of the Gornergrat. The flora on the Gornergrat is one of the most diverse in the Swiss Alps and unique due to its special location. Several plant species grow higher here than in other comparable areas. In the Alpine Garden, you can explore the special flora of the Gornergrat on a variety of paths. Signs bearing QR codes will have you delving into, and learning about, the fascinating world of Alpine vegetation. You can marvel at the plants even outside the flowering season from June to August with the aid of augmented reality. More than 150 plant species occur naturally in the Alpine Garden. What is particularly exciting is that some species in the Alpine Garden are actually rare and endangered in Switzerland.
