Open-Air Theatre: "THE MATTERHORN STORY"

Returns in Summer 2025

In summer 2025, the open-air theatre production THE MATTERHORN STORY by Livia Anne Richard returns to Riffelberg near Zermatt. At an altitude of 2,582 meters, visitors can experience a captivating performance set against the majestic backdrop of the Matterhorn – a fusion of nature, history, and culture.

The Story

In 1865, a rope team dared to ascend the Hörnli Ridge. Their historic summit success, however, was overshadowed by tragedy. This event not only shaped the history of Zermatt but also marked the beginning of Alpine tourism.

New Perspectives and Musical Highlights

The new production introduces fresh characters and an innovative musical concept. The local band Wintershome and pianist Elia Gasser provide live music for unforgettable moments. For the first time, Lilian Naef joins as co-director to enhance the production.

The revival of THE MATTERHORN STORY is a theatrical experience that brings history to life – set in one of the most breathtaking landscapes of the Alps.
