Multimedia experience: “I felt like I was standing in the middle of the landscape”
Story 46
Armin Zurbriggen has visited the experience world “ZOOOM the Matterhorn – See. Feel. Marvel.” on the Gornergrat several times. In an interview, he tells us what he likes about it.
What do you like best about the experience world?
Armin Zurbriggen: “I am fascinated by the multisensory experience. It appeals to all the senses! In summer 2021, I attended the opening together with friends, and last year I organised an excursion to the exhibition for my parents. They said it was the best day they had had in years.”
Can you tell us about your experiences there?
Armin Zurbriggen: “I particularly like the two virtual paragliding flights with the 3D glasses. On the panoramic flight, you are taken on a journey, and on the sporty flight you can explore things for yourself from a bird’s eye view. There is also a world of smells and a 3D cinema. These things all allow us to experience the mountains and the ibexes up close. I felt like I was standing in the middle of the landscape.”
You’re often outdoors, too. Does the experience world come close to reality?
Armin Zurbriggen: “The exhibition offers an experience that we cannot have in nature. We cannot explore the mountains ourselves from this perspective or get as close to the wildlife. The experience world is therefore not a copy of nature, but rather an extension of our world of experience.”
The solar system makes it possible
The multimedia technologies in the experience world are powered by a solar system on the roof. It measures 46.2 square metres and supplies the building with energy.
